“It’s like the guy at the party who tries to make everybody laugh,” said Slade, who will be performing at the Silver Legacy on Saturday with guitarist Joe King, guitarist Dave Welsh and drummer Ben Wysocki. “Nobody laughs. That’s what happens if you try too hard on stage. I’ve learned to let the audience go. I’m not trying to make them happy. I want to play the song well. It follows they will be happy (…)

The Fray: Here to stay

The Fray: Here to stay:
It was a packed show Thursday night at the House of Blues for the kickoff of The Fray’s U.S. “Scars and Stories” tour. The crowd exuded such an electric feeling that even front man Isaac Slade wanted a closer encounter.

About smaller venues, Slade once said: “It feels good to be that close to the crowd.” At Thursday’s performance, Slade took being close to another level. That level was actually a step down from the stage, where Slade made his way down to the main floor, smack in the middle of the audience during the group’s performance of “Happiness,” which is off of its 2009 self-titled album (…)

A message to all Fray Fans

Dear Fray Fans,

Due to personal issues TheFrayFanTweet has been inactive for the past couple of months.
It was the hottest ticket in town Saturday night. Fans have waited almost a full year for this evening - the U2 concert at Invesco Field at Mile High. Saturday is even more special for a local band gone big. The Fray opened for U2.

The Fray are four friends from Denver who broke big in 2005 with their debut album, ” How to Save a Life,” which went double platinum. They have been making hits every since while still calling Denver home (….)

Last night, fans were treated to a rare, small venue appearance by one of America’s best selling bands that just so happens to be from our backyard, the Fray. Billed not-so-secretly as the Juarez Street Fighters, the Fray came back to the Fox Theatre in Boulder to recapture the magic from their quick rise to stardom that led to soundtracking hit shows like “Grey’s Anatomy.” Things have changed in those seven years — on Saturday they’ll open for one of the biggest rock bands of our generation, U2, at the largest venue in the state, Invesco Field at Mile High (….)

The Fray playing a special and pretty funny version of Happiness...

The Fray playing a special and pretty funny version of Happiness with a marching band!

The Fray opens for U2 Saturday, plays secret show in Boulder

The Fray opens for U2 Saturday, plays secret show in Boulder:

The Fray’s ready to open Saturday’s U2 concert at Invesco Field, but this Colorado band’s looking ahead to the future.

The local group’s recording a new album in Nashville with studio pro Brendan O’Brien (Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam). Fray fans can look forward to a rocking album that’s going to give some teeth to the Colorado outfit (…)

It turns out that mysterious band billed at the Fox Theatre as the “juarez Street Fighters” is actually Denver band The Fray. But sorry, Fray fans, tickets are sold out, and have been since the news leaked out yesterday.

Perhaps fans of The Fray had already figured it out: The picture on the Fox website for the Juarez Street Fighters was actually the album art from The Fray’s first album, How To Save A Life.

The spiritually inclined Fray and U2 share more than a stadium

The spiritually inclined Fray and U2 share more than a stadium:

‘I liked U2’s music before I heard about their faith,” says Isaac Slade. “Certainly doesn’t hurt, though.”

While it may not be entirely obvious from his band’s hits, Slade has his own personal and professional stakes in the matter. As frontman for the Fray, Denver’s millions-selling pop group, he’s among the few musicians who can expound on faith — Christian or otherwise — and still manage to break through to the mainstream. Hits like “How to Save a Life” and “You Found Me,” driven by Slade’s piano and emotion-laden singing, certainly didn’t hurt (….)

Isaac Slade on the Fray's new album, working with Brendan O'Brien and opening for U2

Isaac Slade on the Fray's new album, working with Brendan O'Brien and opening for U2:
Isaac Slade sounds at greater ease these days, like he’s completely comfortable in his own skin.
